Summary

The fate of peculiardom hangs in the balance in this epic conclusion to the Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children series。

The last thing Jacob Portman saw before the world went dark was a terrible, familiar face。

Suddenly, he and Noor are back in the place where everything began - his grandfather's house。 Jacob doesn't know how they escaped from V's loop to find themselves in Florida。 But he does know one thing for certain: Caul has returned。

After a narrow getaway from a blood-thirsty hollow, Jacob and Noor reunite with Miss Peregrine and the peculiar children in Devil's Acre。 The Acre is being plagued by desolations - weather fronts of ash and blood and bone - a terrible portent of Caul's amassing army。

Risen from the Library of Souls and more powerful than ever, Caul and his apocalyptic agenda seem unstoppable。 Only one hope remains - deliver Noor to the meeting place of the seven prophesied ones。 If they can decipher its secret location。

Thoroughly enjoyed reading the whole series of books and this final one did not disappoint。 Also enjoyed watching the film of the first book on tv the other night。

As much as I have enjoyed reading this book, I feel like it did not meet my expectations of it。 I can't remember all of them, but there were several moments in the book regarding Caul's return that just seemed like they were copied straight out of Harry Potter ( like Caul's voice resonating in everyone's mind, although not physically present)。 I did not like the combination of Noor and Jacob becoming an item。 I think the writing of it made Jacob look like he was (involuntarily or maybe even volu As much as I have enjoyed reading this book, I feel like it did not meet my expectations of it。 I can't remember all of them, but there were several moments in the book regarding Caul's return that just seemed like they were copied straight out of Harry Potter ( like Caul's voice resonating in everyone's mind, although not physically present)。 I did not like the combination of Noor and Jacob becoming an item。 I think the writing of it made Jacob look like he was (involuntarily or maybe even voluntarily) after any strong peculiar girl he could find。 I did not like that the friendship between him and Emma was not discussed or detailed more, in terms of even them remaining friends (although I do believe Jacob and Emma should have been the couple of the whole saga)。 At the very end, we're not told anything about the remaining characters--such as Sharon, or if whether Fiona was ever able to speak again。 I would've liked to see more of the peculiars' development in their new home and settled life。。。The whole book seemed rushed and forced to fit into the pattern of the series。 I used to love Ransom Riggs books, but his last two were a total miss to me。 。。。more

This was a perfectly serviceable end to the series, but I wasn't really invested by this point and I am glad it is over。 The ending is kind of happy as well, which was appreciated, and I did like (view spoiler)[how the Peculiar children were no longer bound to their time loops and could leave whenever they wanted (hide spoiler)], and it wasn't just Jacob's lot。 For the most part though I wasn't invested in the characters and story, and though I did obviously root for Jacob, I wasn't overly fusse This was a perfectly serviceable end to the series, but I wasn't really invested by this point and I am glad it is over。 The ending is kind of happy as well, which was appreciated, and I did like (view spoiler)[how the Peculiar children were no longer bound to their time loops and could leave whenever they wanted (hide spoiler)], and it wasn't just Jacob's lot。 For the most part though I wasn't invested in the characters and story, and though I did obviously root for Jacob, I wasn't overly fussed when anything bad did happen。 A lot of the specifics of the story felt very forced to fit with the images, and whilst I did like the photography aspect it did seem a bit stretched by this point。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this and I'm glad the story got wrapped up。 I feel like the ending was super rushed, and I'd have really liked to know what the rest of the characters did after。 I really enjoyed this and I'm glad the story got wrapped up。 I feel like the ending was super rushed, and I'd have really liked to know what the rest of the characters did after。 。。。more

Oh my what a wonderfully perfect ending to this series! I'm so sad it's over and yet so glad it went out on a high note。 The final battle was an epic and nerve wracking read and I couldn't put it down。 Oh my what a wonderfully perfect ending to this series! I'm not really sure how to describe this book because there are parts that I loved and parts that needed significant work。 I think overall the story works but the beginning was really boring and I skimmed through basically the first half of the book。 But all of the falling action was fantastic and so epic。 I thought the Jacob-Noor romance was completely unnecessary because it was not developed at all (not even in the previous books) and it was always secondary to literally anything else (or even I'm not really sure how to describe this book because there are parts that I loved and parts that needed significant work。 I think overall the story works but the beginning was really boring and I skimmed through basically the first half of the book。 But all of the falling action was fantastic and so epic。 I thought the Jacob-Noor romance was completely unnecessary because it was not developed at all (not even in the previous books) and it was always secondary to literally anything else (or even, like, fourth。 In fact the same could have been accomplished if they were just friends, which actually would have been better cuz the whole thing is about friendship。) The ending really sucked。 Not detailed spoilers but。。。(view spoiler)[This series has so many interesting characters that you gotta wonder what happened to them。 Speaking of characters, the main cast was not used enough which is sad because usually they are and they have a great dynamic with each other。 It's like they're there, but they're in the background doing some stuff and there was really no room for development which is tragic because wars are such a fun space for character growth。 Also I'd like to know what's going on in America now because I thought that was a big deal in #4 and #5 but oop I guess not。 So what I'm trying to say is that I think this book would have been benefitted by adding like 50 more pages just to wrap up what everyone else is doing and a little more focus on the characters in general。Also I need a movie of this book and this book only because I need to see it rain blood and bones on the Acre and also long fingers (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Loved it。 A great ending for the series, even though it’s sad to see it finish。

I really hope there are enough loose ends in this book to leave room for additional ones in the series!Definitely one of the best books of the whole series, but so hard to choose a favorite。

It's a good conclusion to the series, but there are some things that bothered me while I was reading this book。 I really enjoyed my time reading this book, however it took me a bit longer to read since I tried to recalled my memories while reading this one。 I had some difficulties remembering some of the characters and their own powers。 I've read so many books after The Conference of the Birds and it was a year ago so I might have forgot some of the side characters。 I think it will be very nice It's a good conclusion to the series, but there are some things that bothered me while I was reading this book。 I really enjoyed my time reading this book, however it took me a bit longer to read since I tried to recalled my memories while reading this one。 I had some difficulties remembering some of the characters and their own powers。 I've read so many books after The Conference of the Birds and it was a year ago so I might have forgot some of the side characters。 I think it will be very nice to re-read the series as a marathon without waiting for the next one to come out。 I really like the characters from the beginning of the series and each time Jacob's power always managed to surprised me。 The story was well written and the pacing was great, it managed to keep me entertain from the beginning until the end。 There's some actions and emotional moments in this book。 Despite it being a good book, I had some disappointment with this one which was why I couldn't gave it a five star rating。 (view spoiler)[Some of the side characters were not being explored enough and didn't give enough closure。 After everything they went through, I thought they need all the seven special child to defeat Caul only to find out the other six were spares ?! Well, I agree with Noor being mad when they found out。 Felt like a waste of time for me。 In the end, it was Noor and Jacob AGAIN to save the world。 I was also a bit disappointed with the fact that everyone seems to be alive, there are some sacrifices but it wasn't that significant to really felt sad about it (was I a bad person for wishing that ? ahaha)I felt sad at the ending where Jacob finally parted with his parents and realizing he couldn't live with them anymore and Jacob finally closed their relationship like that。。。。 I thought he was going to give his parents another chance in the future but judging from that ending I didn't think so。 However, it was good though to finally saw them came back to their old house and I think it was a good conclusion to finally got back to where it all began。 (hide spoiler)]Overall, it has been a wonderful journey with the peculiars and this was a good conclusion to the series。 Hopefully this time the villain stayed dead and gives all the peculiar children some rest and live their lives :)Actual rating: 3。5⭐ 。。。more

I've enjoyed the whole series in audiobook form, but after getting the hard copy of this book, I've been able to appreciate the artwork of the historical photos, which has really added a whole new layer of fun to the series。 Great books for middle graders to adults。 I've enjoyed the whole series in audiobook form, but after getting the hard copy of this book, I've been able to appreciate the artwork of the historical photos, which has really added a whole new layer of fun to the series。 Great books for middle graders to adults。 。。。more

This was a perfect end to the series, it left me satisfied with all aspects of the plot。 Characters, aspects of their lives were a bit left to the reader's imagination, but it wasn't awful。 Overall I loved this series, all six books are so unique and fun to read。 This was a perfect end to the series, it left me satisfied with all aspects of the plot。 Characters, aspects of their lives were a bit left to the reader's imagination, but it wasn't awful。 Overall I loved this series, all six books are so unique and fun to read。 。。。more

This series finale wraps up quite nicely, thank you very much Mr。 Riggs!

With a pace that will make you dizzy, Riggs brings his young heroes full circle to a satisfying conclusion。 Bringing in all the elements from the previous books, the authors jams it all together and ratchets it up exponentially。 My only complaint was to have a bit of a chance to breath。

The Desolations of Devil’s Acre (My Kindle Review)I haven’t been this hooked to a series like Riggs’ since “Percy Jackson” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”。 So reading the final entry of this series was a little sad and hard to do, but worth it。Jacob’s journey with the Peculiars has come to an end, and it’s practically flawless。 We get everything from one final adventure to an intense buildup to an epic final battle。It ends on a heartfelt and emotional finale that’s a bit surprising for some The Desolations of Devil’s Acre (My Kindle Review)I haven’t been this hooked to a series like Riggs’ since “Percy Jackson” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events”。 So reading the final entry of this series was a little sad and hard to do, but worth it。Jacob’s journey with the Peculiars has come to an end, and it’s practically flawless。 We get everything from one final adventure to an intense buildup to an epic final battle。It ends on a heartfelt and emotional finale that’s a bit surprising for some but still felt fitting。 There certainly won’t be another book series this peculiar, or have such amazing photographs。 A (100%/Outstanding) 。。。more

I know this is technically YA but I love this series!

I read the whole series。 This is wonderful children's literature。 I was fascinated by the author's ability to write the series based on "peculiar" photographs he collected or borrowed from other sources。 Enough gruesomeness to interest the middle school readers with historical references in the time loops to educate。 Believable and enigmatic characters that will keep the reader interested。 It's a wonderful series if you like YA literature。 I read the whole series。 This is wonderful children's literature。 I was fascinated by the author's ability to write the series based on "peculiar" photographs he collected or borrowed from other sources。 Enough gruesomeness to interest the middle school readers with historical references in the time loops to educate。 Believable and enigmatic characters that will keep the reader interested。 It's a wonderful series if you like YA literature。 。。。more

I liked the overall story, the end was a little chaotic though which I didn’t like, so I took a star off。 I think this ended the series nicely, but also kept an opportunity open for more books。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 People seem pretty divided about the ending, but I really liked it。 I felt like it wrapped up the entire series nicely。 But unfortunately, ending aside, this was my least favourite book in the series for a few key reasons:1。 Noor。 I'm very excited that there was more diversity in the series as it went on, but I feel like there was no character development for Noor。 For the number of books she was in, that's really disappointing。 I also really didn't like the romantic direction with Noor as again People seem pretty divided about the ending, but I really liked it。 I felt like it wrapped up the entire series nicely。 But unfortunately, ending aside, this was my least favourite book in the series for a few key reasons:1。 Noor。 I'm very excited that there was more diversity in the series as it went on, but I feel like there was no character development for Noor。 For the number of books she was in, that's really disappointing。 I also really didn't like the romantic direction with Noor as again, there was no development。 Jacob constantly yammered on about how beautiful she was, but I'm sorry - it's a book - I need a bit more than that。 He seemed nearly obsessed, and I was hoping to finally see a bit of connection between the two of them that made me want them to be together like I did with Emma, but it never came。2。 The pace。 One thing I've loved throughout the books is their fast pace。 I don't feel like there have been many moments where I'm bored and start skimming。 There's always a lot of detail and tons going on, plus there are a lot of characters to keep track of。 But this book felt like a looooot of waiting。 To the point where I wondered if it would end with a cliffhanger and the last book would be the entirety of the final fight。 Because to me I couldn't understand how it would be so little of the book when the entire series built up to this moment。 Surprise surprise, this really was the last book and the fight was just a bit underwhelming, as could be expected in a limited number of pages。3。 The villains。 They weren't doing it for me。 They didn't seem fearsome。 They seemed。。。 cheesy? The descriptions really just had me giggling, not anxious about whether the peculiars would pull through。4。 The characters。 There was a major lack in description of some characters, and no real ending for others that you had become invested in。 Why was Noor the only one to join in at the house in the end? Did none of their other friends, who had helped them stay alive, get to live with them? The goodbye to the parents felt unnecessary and empty to me。 It was a very weird scene altogether。 We finally get Fiona back but she's hardly in the books thereafter。 Really this book felt lackluster for me, which was disappointing given how much I had loved the series up to this point。 。。。more

I don't remember a lot of what happened in the other novels。 I didn't really enjoy it either。 I guess this was okay。 It was one way to end a series。 I don't know how I feel about Jacob leaving his family with a mind wipe to forget about him, or his relationship with Noor rather then Emma。? The book took a long time to get to an ending and when it happened it was only a few pages long and I hate that about some books。 Its like all this build up to only get a very unexciting ending。 Meh。 I don't remember a lot of what happened in the other novels。 I didn't really enjoy it either。 I guess this was okay。 It was one way to end a series。 I don't know how I feel about Jacob leaving his family with a mind wipe to forget about him, or his relationship with Noor rather then Emma。? I'm not crying you're crying。 This book gave me several heart attacks, gave and cured my depression, and was overall a spectacular ending to the series。 While I have some other thoughts about some of the stories aspects, I felt a little cheated in the importance of some of the peculiar children we first were introduced to in the first books。 While this is not only a conclusion of the second trilogy, but also the full series, I was said how little some of the others did in this finale。 But it was I'm not crying you're crying。 This book gave me several heart attacks, gave and cured my depression, and was overall a spectacular ending to the series。 While I have some other thoughts about some of the stories aspects, I felt a little cheated in the importance of some of the peculiar children we first were introduced to in the first books。 While this is not only a conclusion of the second trilogy, but also the full series, I was said how little some of the others did in this finale。 But it was still a much more satisfying series end then some other books I've read。 More to come in a livestream with my buddy read。 。。。more

This one was better than the previous one, and I liked Noor better and Emma got to be herself a bit more。 Olive and Claire have basically been written out by this point, and Bronwyn is just a mule, basically。 I still feel like the potential of the loops, the library and the peculiars was far underplayed compared to Jacob's agonising over how Very Important he is。 What's new with a male protagonist。Well。。。 this review sounds a lot more negative than the four stars I was giving it。 I'm taking one This one was better than the previous one, and I liked Noor better and Emma got to be herself a bit more。 Olive and Claire have basically been written out by this point, and Bronwyn is just a mule, basically。 I still feel like the potential of the loops, the library and the peculiars was far underplayed compared to Jacob's agonising over how Very Important he is。 What's new with a male protagonist。Well。。。 this review sounds a lot more negative than the four stars I was giving it。 I'm taking one back。 There was a missing word in my copy (an 'of') and I'm still not a supporter of the word 'dove' (I would say 'he dived into the pond' - I don't care how you feel about it, I care about what you know about why I prefer it)。 In fact, the language in this book is really not great。 And I'm not just talking about a poorly-informed American trying write as 'British' - it's quite childish and just not at a very high, or even accurate standard。 It is not the worst - those awful Darren Shan circus books had "Me and Fred walked home" on page one, and there was some tragedy of a vampire series I wasted money on during the Twilight era that was almost literally muck。 This series is not THAT bad, but it's still jarring。 It's not even in the context of 'the narrator is a school-dropout teenager with a hero-complex' language。 It swings wildly between kind of being a third person, and then suddenly realises it was meant to be Jacob telling the story。 The narrator language is not consistent - sometimes it tries to be very visually descriptive, when that's nothing like Jacob's actual character。 Then it just can't attain the heights it set for itself and you're thrown out of joint wondering why a whole chapter of inactive description just ended with nothing happening。I dunno。 I wanted to like it better。 Obviously the first book - and maybe even the first trilogy - was onto something with the found photos connecting to the story。 The pictures in this second trilogy are just a crutch。 They have almost nothing to do with the story - literally, the characters walk past useless people, and there are pages of pictures of them。 They're not even peculiar photos anymore。 In fact, the cover image has NOTHING to do with anything。 Cover picture TINY spoiler: (view spoiler)[The cover picture is one sentence in the book: a photographer is taking a picture of a girl。 That's it。 This photographer was documenting peculiars, and the cover photo of the FINALE was some random, untalented, unnamed girl who was there just for that sentence。 (hide spoiler)]Disappointing。ETA: I forgot, my book's spine - under the dustcover - says "The Desolation's of Devil's Acre" WITH THAT AWFUL APOSTROPHE。 I just can't。 。。。more
